The phone-snatching situation in London has been an absolute joke for some years now, and so it’s good to get the occassional clip that proves that the police are at least sometimes able to track down offenders and retrieve phones for the victims.
Amari Scott, 20, had two phones he had just nicked in his possession when tracking data led police to him inside a shop on the same afternoon. Here’s how that panned out for him:
Amari, from Sutton in South London, was also found to have a stolen motorbike in his possession. Which I guess he stole precisely so he could use it for his phone-snatching escapades.
Amari has now been been sentenced to four years in a young offenders’ institution, which I was surprised to read because he’s 20 years old. Turns out young offenders’ institutions are not just for young people aged 15 – 17, but also for young adults aged 18 – 21. Who knew?
Chief Inspector James Weston said: ‘We understand the impact that robbery has on victims – it is invasive and frightening. That’s why our teams are working so hard to deter and catch offenders to reassure our local community.
‘Thanks to the hard work of officers, our partners and community grassroots organisations, we are stepping up our efforts and tackling the issues that matter most to the people of Croydon.’
