Phoebe Gates – 19-year-old daughter of Bill Gates – introduced the world to her new boyfriend on Instagram the other night…
Phoebe didn’t name or tag the lad, but in any case she’s deleted the photo after the comments were overrun by trolls making racist remarks, memes, and just generally focusing on the fact this dude is black. The trolling soon spread to Twitter as well – here are some examples:

What can you say really? The internet’s gonna do what the internet’s gonna do. Most of these comments seem to be coming from Black Twitter anyway, so I guess that’s not as depressing as it could be. In fact the motive behind many of these comments seems to be humour rather than actually having an issue with Phoebe Gates dating a black man, or vice versa.
Naturally there are outright racist comments doing the rounds too, but we’re not gonna share those. Either way, let’s hope this young couple continue to enjoy themselves and ignore what anyone else thinks. Just a shame the social media reveal didn’t quite go the way Phoebe Gates hoped it would. Who said being the heir to an $130bn fortune was easy?
