A video of Phillip Schofield chatting with the young male colleague he had an affair with at This Morning has resurfaced, and it makes for pretty grim viewing knowing what we all know now.
Matthew, who Phillip had allegedly known since he was a child, is interviewing Schofield as part of his showreel, when he asks what the presenter’s hopes for the future are:
Phil “If I’m still getting away with it, I’ll be a happy man…”

Yikes – a regrettable choice of words in hindsight. I’m not sure if Schofield and Matthew were banging at that point but he’s clearly legal in that clip, unlike this old photo of the two of them where he looks about 10:
There’s also the time Jack Jones (remember him?) clocked the two of them dining at a restaurant together during one of his YouTube pranks many years back:
Imagine hiding your affair and nonce-activities only to be exposed by fucking JackJonesTV with a confetti cannon 😭 pic.twitter.com/jifVVpySnU

On Friday, Schofield finally confessed to the worst kept secret in British showbiz:
‘I am making this statement via the Daily Mail to whom I have already apologised personally for misleading, through my lawyer who I also misled, about a story which they wanted to write about me a few days ago.
The first thing I want to say is: I am deeply sorry for having lied to them, and to many others about a relationship that I had with someone working on This Morning.
I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning.
Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship. That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over.’
Holly Willougby then threw him under the bus with her own statement, which I guess is fair enough as she has her own career to worry about:
‘It has taken time to process yesterday’s news.
‘When reports of this relationship first surfaced, I asked Phil directly if this was true and was told it was not. It’s been very hurtful to now find out that this was a lie.’
ITV say they investigated the relationship in early 2020 when rumours about it began to circulate. Their own statement reads:
‘Both parties were questioned and both categorically and repeatedly denied the rumours as did Phillip’s then agency YMU.
In addition, ITV spoke to a number of people who worked on This Morning and were not provided with, and did not find, any evidence of a relationship beyond hearsay and rumour.’
Can’t even imagine the ridiculous cash offers Matthew is receiving at the moment to discuss his affair with Phillip Schofield in the press. Or maybe there’s some kind of super-injunction involved that prevents him from doing so? Either way, Schofield must be quaking in his boots. Doesn’t help that his own brother was recently convicted of sexually abusing a child either, does it?
