I definitely respect the the intentions behind PETA, but unfortunately a lot of their tactics to try and get their point across can leave a lot to be desired.

This latest one is somewhat juvenile and dumb in its merits as they’ve warned gordon Ramsay that they’ll put an ancient curse on him if he doesn’t take octopus off the menu. The organisation sent a letter to chef Ramsay, saying the following:
Octopuses are hyper-intelligent animals capable of complex thought processes: they can navigate mazes, use tools, and learn how to do such things as unscrew lids simply by watching.
They are masters of disguise, they decorate their homes as we do, and they have excellent memories.
They are also extremely sensitive to pain. In fact, because octopuses’ brains are distributed throughout their bodies, the terror and pain they experience at being sliced up alive or speared to death, common methods of killing these animals, is almost unimaginable.
Fortunately, dodging the curse is simple: take octopuses off your menus for good and pledge never, ever to eat these clever cephalopods.
If Gordon Ramsay could make decisions with his heart instead of his bottomless stomach, he’d admit that carving up these highly intelligent, sensitive beings is cruel and unnecessary.
As Halloween approaches, PETA is warning Ramsay and people everywhere to change course to vegan eating or suffer the ‘octocurse’.
Yeah, not really sure that letter even explains what the octocurse is there? It’s just like ‘don’t eat octopus or you’ll have to face off against some non descript curse that we’re not going to describe at all’. At least tell us the consequences of being placed under the octocurse so that it might discourage us from eating them, you know?
Pretty useless warning there – I doubt chef Ramsay is going to change his menu based on that. Look at the picture above, he’s biting into a live octopus’s head FFS.
Again though, I do have some sympathy with what PETA are saying here because octopuses are super smart and it sucks that we’re eating them. They don’t even taste very nice! Just leave them alone.
For more of the same, check out this supercut of octopuses punching fishes. Pretty badass too.
