Even if you didn’t tune into the Jubilee celebrations over the weekend, I’m sure everyone reading this will have enjoyed having a couple of extra days off going into June, so if like me you were off doing something worthwhile instead of celebrating the Queen then you might have missed this weird speech from Prince Charles.

As was expected during the Platinum Jubilee, Prince Charles decided to honour his mother and delivered a speech where he talked about her achievements and duty and also decided to call her ‘Mummy’ – which a few people have pointed out sounds very creepy and weird for a 73 year old man to be saying. Granted, most 73 year old’s mothers probably aren’t alive so there isn’t that much opportunity for them to say it, but even so it’s still a bit strange for anyone over the age of about eight to say ‘Mummy’.
Twitter predictably ripped Prince Charles to shreds, especially when he repeated the word in a written tribute to his mother as well:
Prince Charles using the word Mummy at his age is a straight red card

Didn’t wanna see prince Charles say ‘mummy’ and yet here we are

Great series of events. I just wish #RodStewart and #DianaRoss would retire, and that #PrinceCharles should stop calling the Queen ‘#mummy‘. Not suitable demeanour coming from the future head of state for e.g. Australia.

Mummy? Weird hearing that coming from an elderly man🤔🤷♀️🤷♀️

‘Mummy’! This is a parody account surely! And this wet wipe is to become the future king and head of state, unchallenged. God help us

Mummy, grow up you’re 70 years old 😂😂😂

Like, I agree, but Charles can you be cooler about it please? The whole “Mummy” thing is a bit awkward and these days and has a slightly different connotation from what you think.

Are we all just ignoring the fact that Prince Charles, a 73 year old man, still refers to his mum as ‘Mummy’. #PlatinumJubilee #TheQueen

No man over 16 should ever “mummy”…. cringe

Good job
Just one teeny thing
Please could you drop the ‘Mummy’ in public?
The people I know use ‘Mother’ or ‘Mum’ after the age of about ten
Even Ma’am would be preferable— David of Nottingham (@DavidofNotting1) June 5, 2022
Still can’t over the fact that Prince Charles called Her Royal Highness ‘mummy’ on national TV. Whew – the oedipus is strong in that one.

Just seen a clip where Prince Charles calls the queen ‘Mummy’ and that right there is solid proof that they’re all fucking paedophiles

Yeah I think I’ve kinda gotta agree with all that because it is just so weird to hear a grown adult say that and just automatically gives me the ick when I hear it. Some people out there might think it’s cute and endearing, but I’m sorry you’re just wrong. It’s gross.
For more of the same, check out when someone said that Rishi Sunak looked like Prince Charles in blackface. Bold comparison.
