I can only really think of one TV show that’s been remade over in America that’s ever actually ended up being good and that was ‘The American Office’ and that was because after the first few episodes completely ripped off the original they went in their own direction and completely nailed it.

So with such a low percentage success rate, I’m not really super stoked to hear that one of the most iconic British shows of the past twenty years ‘Peep Show’ has been confirmed to receive yet another American remake. That’s right, apparently this is the fifth time that this has been attempted with one pilot leaking a while ago and being so awful that it makes you feel a completely different level of awkward to the classic original series.
You can actually watch that below if you want but be warned – even though it stars ‘The Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki, it’s very very difficult to watch.
Yikes. Anyway, this new series sounds a bit more promising – mainly because it doesn’t sound like it’s got anything to do with the original premise and also becausel series creators Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong are involved as executive producers, so might have some say over it being released if it completely sucks. Armstrong probably has a bit of credit in the bank over there now too after the popularity of ‘Succession’.
Here’s the blurb:
The new ‘Peep Show’ takes inspiration from the original UK series and its unique narrative format and will be written by Stefani Robinson (‘Atlanta’, ‘What We Do In The Shadows’)
It follows the relationship between a long-suffering assistant and her boss, an emotionally unstable tech entrepreneur.
Hmmm. Still not convinced but at least it’s enough of a departure that it might end up not being completely terrible. If it even sees the light of day that is of course. Won’t be crossing my fingers.
