A 56 year old man from Hartcliffe in Bristol named Ted Richards really wants to look like a parrot, so much so that he’s had his face and eyeballs tattooed to look like one of them and now he’s had a six hour operation to remove his ears. I guess you’ve gotta what you’ve gotta do.

Here’s what he had to say about it:

I think it looks really great. I love it. It’s the best thing that has happened to me.

I am so happy it’s unreal, I can’t stop looking in the mirror.

I have to admit I did used to get teased at school about my ears but that not the reason I’ve had it done.

I now want to turn my nose into a beak.

Wow. I’m pretty much speechless about this one, but Marc Pacifico, a consultant plastic surgeon and member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons summed up what I’m sure most of you are thinking:

I am absolutely horrified to learn that someone has voluntarily put themselves forward for this to be done and possibly more so that he found somebody to actually carry it out.

To be honest I’m kind of inclined to agree with him. I assume Ted can still hear but getting your ears cut off is all kinds of messed up. In case you’re wondering what happened to them, Ted gave them to a close friend who will ‘appreciate them’. Sounds like another weirdo to be honest.
