You often think that there’s no way that anything that happens in science fiction movies could ever happen in real life, but guess what? it definitely can.

The movie I’m talking about here is Steve McQueen’s classic 1958 horror B movie ‘The Blob’ in which an alien life form consumes everything in its path in a small Pennsylvania town because now it seems like a Paris zoo have found their very own ‘Blob’. The organism has no brain but 720 sexes and is a unicellular animal that looks like a fungus but behaves like an animal.
So far so weird but it gets even stranger. It doesn’t have a stomach, mouth or eyes, but it can detect food and digest it. It can move freely without having arms or legs and if you cut it in half, it heals itself back together again in less than three minutes.
The weirdest thing is yet to come though, as explained by Bruno David, director of the Paris Museum of Natural History:
The blob is a living being which belongs to one of nature’s mysteries.
It surprises us because it has no brain but is able to learn (…) and if you merge two blobs, the one that has learned will transmit its knowledge to the other.
We know for sure it is not a plant but we don’t really if it’s an animal or a fungus.
It behaves very surprisingly for something that looks like a mushroom (…) it has the behavior of an animal, it is able to learn.
Did you read that? The Blob literally absorbs other blob’s brains when they come into contact – how screwed up is that for real? I’m surprised these guys aren’t just burning every last one of them before they start absorbing humans into their blob or whatever you call it. You know that’s what’s going to happen because that ALWAYS happens in the movies.
And another thing to think about is where the hell the Blob – and all the other Blobs that are merging with it – even came from in the first place? Does nobody else have extremely loud alarm bells ringing in their heads about this right now? Seriously.
