An Arizona tattoo artist is under fire after giving a 9-year-old girl an American flag tattoo – even though her parents had originally requested that he tattoo Donald Trump’s face on the child’s neck.
Tattoo artist ‘Sosa’, who works at Black Onyx Empire Tattoo parlor in Yuma, Arizona, shared footage of the inking on Instagram, and has been getting dragged all over the internet since:
Amazingly, it is legal for underage children to get tattoos in Arizona as long as their parents approve and are present during the session. Even still, people aren’t happy with Sosa for going ahead with it:
Sosa is now defending himself against the criticism online, saying he convinced the girl to get an American flag tattoo on her arm instead of the original idea pitched by her parents: Donald Trump’s face on her neck. He also said the family were of Turkish origin, and that tattoos were a part of their tradition. Sosa said:
“I’m getting a lot of hate from it. My employees are getting hate from it. My business, I’m getting so many bad reviews on Google.
Being an artist and businessman, you also have to know the cultures they come from. They were just very grateful to be here in the United States. They were just being grateful. They said they saw Donald Trump as a hero.”
Well, clearly Sosa subscribes to the idea that ‘all publicity is good publicity’, because there’s no way he didn’t realise that when he published that video of himself tattooing an American flag on a 9-year-old child, that 99% of the internet would hate him for it. It’s sparked all kinds of debate over tattoo laws, over what permanent physical changes should be allowed to be made to the body of a minor, and of course, Donald Trump.
On some level, I have to say that Sosa is a bit of a hero for at least talking this girl and her parents out of getting a Donald Trump tattoo on her neck. That would have been insane and preposterous. But to then go ahead and tattoo an American flag (or anything at all) on her? Well, as the comments say, just because it’s legal, it doesn’t make it right.
