Soft sentencing.
It’s been the trial of the year and it looks like Oscar Pistorius has finally been given the verdict over the shooting of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
Judge Thokozile Masipa has sentenced Pistorious to six years for second degree murder.
This trial has been a pretty traumatic one and this has obviously had some affect as Masipa said that the compelling circumstances, including the misperception that he had intended to kill his girlfriend, are what lead her to give less than the regular 15 year minimum sentence.
People are probably going to be quite split between whether Pistorius should have had a heavier punishment or whether he really didn’t mean to shoot Steenkamp. Either way, it’s happened, it’s done and Pistorius is going back in the slammer for at least the next several years.
And to think he nearly got away with manslaughter.
