With bright, colourful slot games trying to attract players towards them, many players are yet to experience the casino classics that have journeyed centuries to reach them today.
This being said, we wanted to delve in deeper, to find out which casino classic could be up for consideration when choosing your next virtual game – will it be online Blackjack or Roulette?
Roulette
Spinning onto the casino floor in the 18th century, after Blaise Pascal tried to create a perpetual motion machine in the 17th century, but ended up with the blueprints for the iconic Roulette wheel. Since then, Roulette has well and truly spun its way through history and onto our screens.
A game of chance and prediction, with the aim to correctly wager which pocketed compartment of the wheel the ball will land, has been played by millions of players across the world, over the centuries.
To play a game of Roulette, both on and offline, you’ll need a Roulette wheel, a corresponding table, betting chips, a small white ball, which is also known as a pill, and a dealer – either a real-life dealer or a computerised one.
To begin, the dealer will open the betting window. It is within this timeframe you’ll need to place a wager down on the table as to where you believe the ball will land. Once the dealer closes the betting window, no further bets will be allowed to be placed.
The wheel will be spun and the ball entered into play. It isn’t until the wheel has come to a complete stop that the winning pocketed compartment, where the ball has landed, will be announced. After the winnings have been awarded to those that predicted correctly, the betting chips will be raked off the table by the dealer, readying the table for a new game.
Blackjack
A card game that arrived on the casino scene as Vingt-et-Un, which translates to Twenty-One, is a game comprised of just a few things – you, the dealer, betting chips, playing cards and a Blackjack table.
The aim of blackjack is to hold a hand of cards valued as close to 21 as possible, without exceeding, whilst also holding a hand valued higher than your opponent, the dealer.
After placing your wager down, the dealer will deal you two cards face up, whilst dealing themselves two cards – one face up, the other face down. It is here you’ll need to total up your cards and decide whether to stick or be hit with another card.
If at any point your hand exceeds 21, you instantly lose. Once you’re happy with your hand, the dealer will turn over their face down card and tot up their hand value. If their hand is valued higher than yours, you lose.
If it is below, they have the option to add another card to their hand or admit defeat. If you tie, you neither win nor lose.
