The fish that are washed up onto shore are being picked off by vultures, which probably means that the chemicals are getting spread further through the food chain which is awesome. But the vultures can’t clear them all. The air is thick with the stench of rotting guts.

La Brea local, Anika Goodridge said “Fish are coming ashore every day, today I clear out a lot in my backyard, the smell is disgusting, and I have two babies so that is why I clear it out to kinda ease up de scent”. When asked what effect the fish are having on her family she said “Diarrhoea, me and my kids. The scent is always inside, always and you have to use air freshener or whatever you can find or just hope the sun doesn’t come out too hot because that is when the scent does really be unbearable”.

Goodridge added that the ambulance service to the area had been stopped whilst the skeleton clean-up was ongoing… “We don’t see nothing, no people coming to see about the problem so we have to deal with the problem weself”. Apparently people are getting ill and puking left, right and centre.

So what are Petrotrin saying about the matter? This: “Based on the environmental monitoring reports, there are no contaminants identified (including hydrocarbons) in the marine and nearshore environments of La Brea”. Well what’s killing all the fish then?

It’s your typical big business balls bonanza. They’ve sorted the issue at their end and are in no rush to sort it out for the locals, that would cost too much. How lovely. They go on to say “We understand the concerns of the community and continue to monitor and evaluate the situation”. Yeah right. Someone should box up all the puke and mail it to their HQ.
