Samburu, Kenya
The Samburu of Kenya are a gerontocracy i.e. the power in the tribe is held by the elderly. This system of governing from the top means that young Samburu don’t really leave their cantankerous teenage behaviour behind until they’re in their 30’s.
They are closely related to the Maasai and their languages are pretty much identical. As with many distinctions between African tribes, they only really became divided once colonial powers had started naming them.
