Nirvana are the poster children of the 1990s Seattle grunge scene that includes other such luminaries as Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, and due to the iconic nature of the time and the music it’s hardly surprising that someone is now working on a musical based upon the era.

Details seem to be scarce at the moment, but here’s what we currently do know:

– Nirvana’s manager Janet Billig Rich is involved.

– The songs will be taken from BMG’s back catalogue, which owns the rights to many of the most famous grunge bands of the time.

– The play is going to be written and directed by someone called Wendy C. Goldberg.

– It’s going to be based on a book by playwright Matt Schatz detailing the life of a brilliant grunge musician whose rival may have killed him. Sounds familiar…

Well, there’s no doubting that if you like grunge music then this is going to be pretty exciting news and hopefully a pretty exciting production too. If it actually gets good enough reviews then it might even make it over to London and we’ll all go and check it out together.

We can but hope. Until then, check out these photographs from Nirvana’s 1989 European tour. Before they were famous.
