Nicolas Cage has made a long and storied career of playing completely insane psychopaths, but it looks like he’s saving the best for last with his new movie Mandy which I think can only be described as batshit crazy.

I’ll let you watch the trailer first before saying anything about it to see if you can decipher just what the hell is going on:

Exactly. Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Somewhere in the primal wilderness near the Shadow Mountains in the year 1983, Red Miller (Nicolas Cage) has fallen deeply for the deceptively charming Mandy Bloom (Andrea Riseborough). However, the life he has made for himself comes crashing down suddenly and horrifyingly, when a vile band of ravaging cultists and supernatural creatures desecrate his idyllic home with vicious fury. A broken man, Red now lives for one thing only—to hunt down these maniacal villains and exact swift vengeance.

So it pretty much sounds like a modern day Evil Dead that Nicolas Winding Refn directed. He’s the guy who  made Drive in case you’re not as learned on movie knowledge as me. I’m totally down.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like there’s a UK release date yet but it’s due to come out in America on September 14th, so hopefully not too long until we see it on these shores. Or just stream it, whatever.
