It’s proving to be a bad month to be a member of the Carter family, with Backstreet Boy Nick Carter being sued for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in 2001, which comes weeks after the tragic death of his brother Aaron.
The woman, who has publicly come forward 20+ years later and identified herself as 39-year-old Shannon Ruth, alleges the incident happened in 2001 when she was 17. Ruth, who has autism, says she was invited by Carter onto the band’s tour bus in Tacoma, Washington, where she met him while waiting in line for an autograph.
According to the LA Times, Carter offered Ruth a drink and gave her what he called “VIP Juice” after she requested apple juice. Ruth said she now believes the “funny tasting drink” was a mix of cranberry juice and alcohol.
Carter then allegedly forced Ruth to perform oral sex on him in the bus’ bathroom and sexually assaulted her on a bed. Ruth described the scene in court this week:
“I pleaded with him over and over again to stop. I was so upset that I cried throughout the ordeal. Afterward, he called me a ‘******* little b**ch’ and threatened me, saying no one would believe me and I’d go to jail if I told what happened. He also said he’d turn people against me because he’s Nick Carter and he would wreck my life.”
Worse still, Ruth claims that Carter infected her with HPV during the incident. Damningly for Nick Carter, there are three other rape accusers in this civil suit (identified as Jane Doe 1, Jane Doe 2, and Jane Doe 3) who all claim they were virgins when Nick raped them and that they ended up with HPV too.
So the evidence isn’t looking great against Carter, even it has come out so many years after the alleged incident took place. Unsurprisingly, ABC have cancelled this year’s Backstreet Boys Christmas Special, which is probably for the best. What I’m baffled about is what parent leaves an autistic 17-year-old girl alone with an early 20s pop star? I guess they were as convinced by the clean-cut BSB image as the rest of us. Never forget:
