Remember how NFTs were absolutely popping off last year and people were buying them for millions of dollars whilst the rest of us looked on in bemusement as there just didn’t seem to be a good reason for people spending so much money on them?

Well, we might have finally been vindicated in our puzzlement after an NFT of the founder of Twitter Jack Dorsey’s first ever tweet went on sale last night for the cool price of $48 million, almost $45 million more than what crypto entrepeneuer Sina Estavi picked it up for last year. Looks like he was going to make a pretty penny on it there doesn’t it? He was hoping to get at least $50 million for it and as a little sweetener for anyone bidding, he also promised to donate 50% of his winnings to charity.

Sadly though, it didn’t turn out like that at all for Estavi because by the time the auction was over the highest bid that he had received for the NFT was just $280. Only seven people even bothered bidding on it.

Estavi doesn’t have to accept that bid and it’s unclear if he will at this point, but I suppose he doesn’t want to cheat Give Directly out of $140 does he? Anyway, here’s what he had to say about the situation:

The deadline I set was over, but if I get a good offer, I might accept it.

I might never sell it.

Salty. Estavi has got two days to decide, but if he does choose to sell it for that price he’ll literally be making a 99.99% loss on his investment. I suppose he probably doesn’t really care that much in terms of the finances because he’s a crypto bro and has millions of pounds worth of dumb coins, but it’s gotta be pretty embarrassing for him and everyone who bigged up NFTs as a whole. Hopefully the bubble really has burst and we can stop talking about them now. They suck!

For more of the same, check out this NFT of the Will Smith slap. Guess how much that’s going for?
