Former American football player Ray Rice has pledged to donate every cent he earns to domestic violence charities if any team re-signs him in the NFL.

Rice was cut loose in September 2014 after this video emerged of him punching his former fiancé in the face in a hotel elevator.

After knocking her out, he then drags her unconscious out of the elevator.

Rice says:

I’m not thankful for being that guy, but I’m thankful for the people that now are not afraid to ask for help, because I had to go get the help myself after to realize the severity of what domestic violence is.

Me donating my salary is something that’ll be from the heart for me. I only want to play football so I can end it the right way for my kids and for the people that really believed in me. But I know there’s a lot of people affected by domestic violence, and every dollar helps. It’s raising awareness.

I guess that’s one way to turn the fact you hit women into a positive PR move. The guy says he’ll donate literally every cent he makes to raising awareness of domestic violence if he gets to play in the NFL again and he does sound sincere from that quote at least. Now if any NFL team doesn’t sign him it’ll seem like THEY’RE the ones who support domestic violence. Pretty genius all in all.
