Has anyone ever called you boring? I think that’s probably one of the biggest insults in history as you haven’t even done anything unique or interesting in your shittiness – you’re just not even worth giving the time of day because you’re never gonna do anything worth talking about. It’s a real zinger (or at least I imagine as nobody has ever called me that).

Anyway, for some reason a bunch of academics decided to commission a study in the new issue of ‘Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin’ where they tried to narrow down the common traits that were shared by boring people. To be honest, it’s a fairly small sample size – only 115 people were questioned about various professions and interests and how ‘boring’ they thought they were, but if you’re worried that you might share some of these characteristics with them, then look away now:

- Sleeping a lot
- Going to church
- Watching TV
- Bird-watching and other similar nature-based hobbies
- Enjoying math
And there you have it. I probably would agree with most of those to be honest except watching TV – whilst that isn’t exactly something to brag about, it’s something everyone ends up doing just because there isn’t a lot to do when you’re at home – so if you’re looking at this and finding that you’ve ticked every box, maybe it’s time to re-evaluate your lifestyle?
As for professions, data entry clerks and accountants came out on top there, which probably isn’t going to surprise anyone. If you’re already working one of those jobs and thought you were anything other than boring then I doubt that there’s anything we can do to save you at this point though. Good luck.
For more of the same, check out this study that claims smelling your partner’s farts makes you live longer. There’s a study for everything hey?
