You wouldn’t think that anything could compete with the bathtub scene from ‘Saltburn‘, but apparently new Emma Stone movie ‘Poor Things’, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, has already managed to outdo it in terms of mentally scarring its viewers.

In fact ‘Poor Things’ is so f*cked up that a sex scene reportedly had to be re-edited in order to comply with film laws in the UK.

In the movie, Emma Stone plays Bella Baxter, a woman who’s been brought back to life by having her baby’s brain replace hers. Which sounds weird enough, but gets even weirder when you watch the trailer:

Despite the producers being ordered to re-edit the film for release, it still managed an ’18’ rating, which isn’t too shocking considering the scene in question involves Emma Stone being hired as a prostitute by a man who makes his two young sons watch.

The British Board of Film Classifications (BBFC) said they’d give the film an 18 rating as long as it changed a scene which was ‘depicting sexual activity in the presence of children’.

Yeah, this movie's certainly earned the 18 rating. Credit: Searchlight Pictures

In any case, it’s well worth a watch if the reviews are anything to go by (94% on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.4 on IMDB). The general consensus on social media seems to be that it’s even more disturbing than Saltburn:

I guess we’ll have to check it out then. ‘Poor Things’ is showing in cinemas now…
