There are lots of conspiracy theories that seem to centre around Antarctica, and it looks as though new ground has been broken for one of them – the idea that there is a parallel universe in Antarctica where time runs backwards.

Now, because I didn’t pay much attention in science at school I’m not the one to ascertain whether this makes sense or not, but I’m going to copy & paste the story as reported from the NY Post below, and also provide a link to the original research paper HERE.

So, here’s what’s been reported…

A group of NASA scientists working on an experiment in Antarctica have detected evidence of a parallel universe — where the rules of physics are the opposite of our own, according to a report.

The experts used a giant balloon to carry NASA’s Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna, or ANITA, high above Antarctica, where the frigid, dry air provided the perfect environment with little to no radio noise to distort its findings.

A constant “wind” of high-energy particles constantly arrives on Earth from outer space.

Low-energy, subatomic neutrinos with a mass close to zero can pass completely through Earth, but higher-energy objects are stopped by the solid matter of our planet, according to the report.

That means the high-energy particles can only be detected coming “down” from space, but the team’s ANITA detected heavier particles, so-called tau neutrinos, which come “up” out of the Earth.

The finding implies that these particles are actually traveling backward in time, suggesting evidence of a parallel universe.

Um, sounds legit? Like I said, I’m not an expert but from what I understand they’re basically saying stuff falling down = normal and stuff falling up = backwards universe? Makes sense I suppose.

It’s another in a long list of Antarctica conspiracy theories that kickstarted following the Nazis’ obsession with Antarctica before and during World War II. The Nazis claimed they owned a large plot of land there called New Swabia.

In 1946, America, Britain and Australia led an operation to invade Antarctica which turned out to be a total disaster that resulted in lots of casualties. Conspiracy theorists have since claimed that the mission went wrong because they were met by UFOs and aliens rather than human enemies.

America’s Rear Admiral Richard Byrd, who died in 1957, even wrote in his journal that he believed there was a gateway to a “whole other world” in Antarctica, but was ordered by the US Military to keep quiet about it.

There’s also the Antarctic Treaty – an agreement between all major nations to keep Antarctica as the only continent with no human population and used only for scientific research.

There’s also all the supposed pyramids throughout Antarctica, which geologists say are just mountains but of course conspiracy theorists don’t buy that for a second…

Who knows eh? There’s probably nothing to most of these theories but these particles coming “up” out of the Earth is certainly an interesting revelation that will hopefully lead to a greater understanding of the universe (or maybe that secret entrance into a parallel universe that Admiral Byrd was talking about).

Would NASA even tell us if they found it though? That’s what I find a bit fishy about all this. Although what better place to hide a parallel universe than under 5,000,000 miles of ice?
