1. Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now
Top of the pile from sad sack, the title says it all. Another song that is borderline schizophrenic with a breezy melody and haunting lyrics. Not one of their most popular per se, but nothing sums up the utter drudgery of existence like this song. I’ve never been depressed, fvck knows I should have been, but if ever I was, this song would have me reaching for the rusty razor blades in no time.
“I was looking for a job, and then I found a job
And heaven knows I’m miserable now”
Poetry.

So that’s it, my top 3 songs from The Smiths. I’ve only just got over the feelings of woeful misery that my experience left me with. Anyone who doesn’t think that Morrissey is depressing must have a terrible life and my heart bleeds for you. Next week I look at the juxtapose between implied sentiments of intangible love and a yearning for solitude in 3 Happy Hardcore classics.
Merry Christmas you miserable shits.
