Even with all the horrific things he’s been accused of in recent times, Vince McMahon is still one of the most fascinating people to ever walk on the face of this planet. He took his dad’s regional wrestling business and created a worldwide, billion dollar empire out of it that no one believed was possible, and also wasn’t afraid to get stuck into the in-ring shenanigans himself from time to time.

And so it was only a matter of time before Netflix made a blockbuster documentary on the former WWE boss, with ‘Mr. McMahon’ landing on the platform this September. Here’s their synopsis of the documentary:

Chronicles the rise and fall of Vince McMahon, a controversial businessman and co-founder of WWE. From his transformation of the WWE from a small, regional business into a global entertainment powerhouse to the explosive sexual misconduct allegations that led to his eventual resignation, this six-episode series offers a deep dive into McMahon’s life and his enduring franchise.

Culled from over 200 hours of interviews with McMahon himself (prior to his resignation), his family members, business associates, and some of the most iconic names in wrestling history, as well as the journalists who uncovered McMahon’s allegations — filmmaker Chris Smith (Tiger King) and executive producer Bill Simmons (30 for 30) present an unflinching, no-holds-barred look at one of the most enigmatic figures in sports entertainment.

So this is either going to be the best documentary ever, or the biggest lie ever told in order to protect the reputation and legacy of Vince McMahon. However, between his pending sexual trafficking and harassment legal battles, his age (79), and resigning as the WWE’s chairman, maybe McMahon doesn’t have the power to sweep these scandals under the rug anymore?

In any case, there’s still a lot of mystery surrounding the man, considering Vince never gave too many longform interviews throughout his career. I remember he did one written interview with Playboy many years ago in which he admitted he had been sexually abused by a older female relative when he was young boy. I wonder if Netflix will explore those aspects of his life and not just his time dominating the pro wrestling industry and the fall from power that followed.

Either way, we’ll take all the behind-the-scenes Vince McMahon stories we can get – from him and others.

Here’s a clip from an old Howard Stern interview to whet your appetite:

Wasn’t that long ago we featured an entire thread of the craziest Vince McMahon stories out there. How many of those will make it into the documentary?
