I imagine that most of us probably think that when we kick the bucket we’ll just have a regular funeral in a church or whatever and then head back to the local pub for some sandwiches or finger food. It’s just the standard way to do things over here.

I doubt that anyone reading this has in mind for their funeral what happened at 24 year old rapper Goonew’s over the weekend in Washington DC. His friends and family bizarrely decided to hire a local nightclub and prop up Goonew’s embalmed dead body on the stage so that everyone could have one last boogie with him in their very own ‘Weekend At Bernie’s.
In perhaps an even weirder decision too, the family also charged everyone $40 to get into the club. Never heard of anyone paying to go to a funeral before, but I suppose they don’t normally have them at clubs or with dead bodies hanging out on stage either. Maybe it’s all part of a new wave of more ‘fun’ funerals?

That’s some kind of vibe isn’t it? Not really sure how I would feel if I went to a club and saw my dead friend standing up on the stage looking down on me. Don’t think I’d really be that into it but everyone in the video seems to be having a good time so maybe we shouldn’t be judging them for this rogue move, like everyone on social media seems to be doing:

Goonew’s mother Patrice Morrow has taken so much abuse that she’s had to come out with following statement about the funeral rave:
For all the negatives, people probably don’t even know nothing about us,
They have no idea. People just saying what they want to say and that’s fine.
That’s perfectly fine. I’m pleased with how I sent my son away.
I wish people would just let me grieve in peace.
Again I suppose she seems happy and nobody in the video seems that upset about it? Maybe we should just let them grieve how they want to grieve? Even if it is completely messed up.
Oh yeah, for anyone wondering how Goonew passed away, he was shot in a drive by a couple of weeks ago – which is probably how he would have wanted to go as it’s very gangster rap. Police are offering $25,000 in reward money for anyone who knows what happened, so get in touch if you fancy a nice pay day in return for being a snitch.
