Scarface (1983) Rated 15
If you have ever watched MTV Cribs then undoubtedly you have had the chance to nose around the house of one of the many rap stars that fill out the show. There is one thing that ever self-respecting rapper has
in common, apart from an array of bling and ho’s adorning their bodies…every single one of them owns a copy of Scarface.
A determined Cuban refugee named Tony Montana (Al Pacino) comes to America in search of the American dream. Not the one you read about in the great American novels of the early 21st Century; but the one that
every little boy really dreams of whilst playing Grand Theft Auto Vice City, to become the “king” of the drug world whilst creating an empire of crime. There are several scenes that will make you want to turnaway disgusted by Oliver Stone’s vision but please remember that he wrote this film whilst battling a severe cocaine addiction (pretty much enough to kill a small horse, daily).
If for nothing else, this film should be watched just so you can realise what greed can really do to a man…o and for the scene where Pacino does his best to handle an M16 assault rifle with an M203 40mm
grenade launcher attached to the barrel.
Ironically the best advocate for the cancellation of the remake that Universal are planning is the man himself, Tony Montana.
“You know who the real crooks are? Those sleazy Hollywood producers!”
Couldn’t agree more Tony, couldn’t agree more.
