I remember when ‘A Serbian Film’ was coming out ten years ago and people were going nuts about whether or not it should be released due to the frankly horrific content on display. And when you hear that this includes a man raping a dead baby and someone killing someone by shoving their erection into the eye socket, then you kinda thought that they might have a point.

Anyway, I think the idea behind the movie was that it was a political allegory on modern society or something, but most people understandably couldn’t see past the graphic content. It was subsequently banned in Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Norway and only an edited version of the final cut with four minutes removed was released in the UK.
There’s good news for people that wanted to see those extra scenes of disgusting sexual violence though, as it’s just been announced that Unearthed Films will be releasing a full 4K cut of the film on DVD and Blu Ray next year on January 29th. I guess 2020 is finally looking up for the sickos and perverts out there?
If my description in the intro of this article hasn’t completely put you off, then here’s the actual trailer and plot synopsis of the movie:
Milos, a retired porn star, leads a normal family life with his wife Maria and six-year-old son Petar in tumultuous Serbia, trying to make ends meet. A sudden call from his former colleague Layla will change everything.
Aware of his financial problems, Layla introduces Milos to Vukmir – a mysterious, menacing and politically powerful figure in the pornographic business. A leading role in Vukmir’s production will provide financial support to Milos and his family for the rest of their lives.
Milos is drawn into a maelstrom of unbelievable cruelty and mayhem devised by his employer, the director of his destiny. In order to escape the living cinematic hell he’s put into, and save his family’s life, Milos will have to sacrifice everything – his pride, his morality, his sanity, and maybe even his own life.
