Without trying to sound pretentious, it’s the juxtaposition of modern and ancient that I like. The veils mixed in with the Nike signs. It’s a weird pairing but somehow it works.

Hajjaj was born in Larache, Morocco, in 1961, but left Morocco for London at an early age. Whilst in England he got into hip hop and reggae in a big way and that scene went on to influence his artistic direction as much as his Arabic heritage.

As for the biker girls of Morocco, I actually can’t find anything about them, other than the blurb on the gallery website. So I can’t tell you whether they just hang about or whether they’re knee-deep in dodgy deals and ritual beatings. Maybe they don’t even exist at all? I don’t want to believe that though. Cool pictures either way…
