It’s never nice to hear of somebody being murdered, but the way that 30-year-old Iana Kasian bit the bullet back in May of last year is really something else.

Her 35-year-old lover and father of her child, comic book writer Blake Leibel (pictured below) has been accused of her murder and is currently standing trial for it. As part of the case, it was revealed that Kasian was scalped, tortured and drained of all her blood before she was finally killed.

James Ribe of the LA County Coroner’s office gave the following description of Ms Kasian’s death in an autopsy report:

[Her] entire scalp was traumatically absent and was not found, was not present with the body. Her skull had been stripped down to the surface of the bone … there was no scalp present except for little bits in the back of the neck.

Also portions of the right side of her face were torn away including the right ear and part of the posterior face on the right side, all the way down the jawline.

There were also bruises and abrasions on Ms Kasian’s face, including a human bite mark.

She lived for at least eight hours approximately after receiving the scalp injury and the bruise to the collarbone.

I have never seen this before. And I doubt hardly any forensic pathologists in this country or abroad have even seen this, outside of, perhaps, wartime … it’s extremely rare.

Leibel’s lawyers are planning to say that he’s not mentally fit to stand trial, but he’s still currently facing charges of murder, mayhem, aggravated mayhem and torture.

Not really sure how this one is going to turn out but you can bet that there’s going to be a hell of a lot of baggage unloaded in the trial during testimony. Hopefully Leibel gets what he deserves, which could be the death penalty due to the severe nature of the crime. We’ll keep you posted.
