4) Your Job Will Become More Enjoyable
In fact, it makes a lot of things more enjoyable. But I thought I would focus on the job thing, because depending on what you do, at times this can be one of the shittier aspects to life, especially if you do a proper 9-5 — there’s only so much of the day that you can spend killing time.
Thing is, a large cut of our lives are spent at work, so it makes sense to try and make it as pleasant as possible. Unfortunately, when Barry comes up and starts moaning that you didn’t refill the water cooler, this can become more than difficult.
That’s why it’s good to try something that is called ‘surrender’. It’s another form of mindfulness, whereby you accept and let go of little annoyances and step completely into the present moment. Here’s an example — is your boss a bit of a knob? If you have a nice boss, then try to think of someone else who habitually annoys you throughout the day. Then, next time you get blamed for doing something wrong when it wasn’t you, or someone won’t stop talking while you’re busy, rather than react or retaliate, just accept it. Do nothing.
This will feel horrible at first, like really horrible. But as that feeling fades away, you will feel weirdly elated. The more you try this, the easier it gets until eventually you are literally cool as a cucumber. The hard work is worth it, trust.
