I literally can’t imagine two people with less potential for sexual tension than Martin Freeman and Jenna Ortega, but that seems to be the story with Miller’s Girl, where Freeman plays a failed writer and teacher who is being seduced by 17-year-old student Ortega.

There seems to be a lot of complaining on social media about the ‘questionable’ plotline, but it’s not like this story hasn’t been told a hundred times before with other films. It’s just so random that it’s Martin Freeman (complete with American accent) playing opposite Jenna Ortega, who has now been pretty much typecast in this creepy child prodigy role.
But maybe the odd pairing and lack of chemistry IS the point. It’s basically a theme in all Martin Freeman movies, with his little micro expressions and awkward tics that he does every 5 seconds. In any case, can’t wait for the Twitter discourse when this drops in January 2024.
