Mickey Mouse has been public domain for one day and there’s already a gory slasher movie coming out starring the Disney legend, with the trailer for horror film ‘Mickey’s Mouse Trap’ arriving online earlier:

If you think that looks terrible, then brace yourself because this is only the beginning. There are in fact another two horror projects starring Mickey Mouse on the horizon – another untitled film by Steven LaMorte, and a horror game titled ‘Infestation 88.’

It’s worth noting that modern versions of both Mickey and Minnie Mouse are still covered by copyright, but their non-speaking versions from the 1928 classic Steamboat Willie are now free for anyone to use without permission or cost as of January 1, 2024. So it seems as though these projects were already in the works and they’ve just been waiting for January 1st to unveil them without issue.

So while a Mickey Mouse slasher seems the obvious way to go now that Mickey is public domain, surely it’s only a matter of time before we get a Nazi Mickey Mouse, a domestic-abusing Mickey Mouse and a Mickey Mouse porn film. The dark corners of the internet are probably already working on it as we speak.
