Michael Owen has already described his daughter’s involvement in Love Island this year as ‘every father’s worst nightmare’, and while doing punditry for the England v Germany game the other night he naturally became the butt of the jokes.
The digs started right away as presenter Jules Breach introduced the team covering the match for Channel 4, saying:
“Joining me hoping to see another famous win for England tonight in Munich, England and Arsenal midfielder Jordan Nobbs, former England, West Ham and Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole and the father of Love Island’s Gemma Owen. A big night for the Owens last night Michael, how are you feeling?”
Owen quickly shut it down:
“I came all the way to Germany to try and avoid all that back home, but it has been brought up straight away! But I am feeling alright. This is taking my mind off it so don’t bring it back up.”
Things are poised to get a lot worse for the former England striker, who claims he’s never watched the show before but that Gemma ‘assured me it’s not as bad as I think’. Given she’s about to get banged by a hench Italian GigaChad named Davide any day now I’d say it’s probably even worse than he thinks, and there’ll be no getting away from it because the whole country will be winding him up about it.
Love Island airs tonight at 9pm on ITV2. Here’s the moment the Italian stallion – who’s 8 years older than 19-year-old Gemma – selected her as his main girl (she was well chuffed about it – sorry Michael Owen):
