Leaving Neverland is the documentary that everyone seems to be talking about at the moment as perceptions of Michael Jackson have seemingly been shattered overnight.

I’m gonna be honest and put my hands up and say I’m yet to have seen it, but the evidence sounds pretty damning from what I’ve heard. People are still denying that Jackson was a paedophile though, normally quite vocally and unashamedly and this has been put into stark focus today with the news that someone had paid for ‘Michael Jackson Innocent’ banners on London buses.
They feature a picture of Jackson with his mouth covered by a box saying ‘innocent’ with a slogan saying ‘Facts don’t lie. People do.’ The adverts are said to have been paid for by a crowdfunding campaign through the website MJInnocent.com. They’ve been live since February 27th.

Not sure what to make of this. It’s weird to me how almost any other celebrity who is accused of sexual abuse/being a paedophile is completely ostracised, yet so many people are willing to go to such lengths to defend Michael Jackson, even though realistically they’ve got no more evidence of how he behaved than the next person. I suppose that’s testament to his cult of personality but it’s also dangerous that people are so quickly to dismiss the stories of Wade and Jason in the wake of it.
Like I said, I haven’t watched the documentary yet so I don’t know what to make of it, but I think we need some kind of special enquiry or the US equivalent as with the Savile case over here to finally put it to bed once and for all.
