A former MI5 agent has annoyed his ex-colleagues by trying to sell an exclusive watch made especially for staff at MI5 on eBay. MI5 commissioned 900 of the special edition watches, known as ‘Superocean Steelfish’, to mark its centenary in 2009 and staff could buy one at just £1000 a piece.
No secret James Bond-style features unfortunately, but the watches do each have the MI5 ‘defend the realm’ motto inscribed.
Having quit the agency after a disagreement with a superior, the unnamed agent was caught trying to sell the watch to fund his education as he returns to uni. The ad was supposed to end yesterday evening but had been taken down by the afternoon just as the top bid reached £3,500.
A miffed security source said “All members of the Security Service have to sign the Official Secrets Act and as such are required not to reveal for whom they work — or have worked — once they leave.”
Chances this dude is into Houdini-style sexual escapades? We may soon find out.
