Last week we bought you the scandal of the McDonald’s mozzarella sticks over in the States that literally had no cheese in them and the outrage that this was causing on Twitter, and we figured that this would be the end of it.
How wrong we were. This being America, some Californian man called Chris Howe realised that the overwhelming support they were receiving for their plight could be turned into cash money and decided to file a $5million class action law suit against McDonald’s on behalf of the 40 people who were left cheeseless. Ruthless.
Whilst this might seem slightly frivolous at first glance, Howe actually has some chance of winning as apparently what McDonald’s are doing is actually illegal. As per the suit:
Something like 3.76 percent of the cheese portion of McDonald’s mozzarella sticks is actually starch filler.
Federal guidelines reportedly prohibit the use of starch in products that are labeled “mozzarella cheese.”
The lawsuit says McDonald’s cut costs by using a filler and therefore had used unfair and fraudulent advertising in claiming the menu item actually contained mozzarella cheese.
Sounds like McDonald’s are being pretty naughty there, if the claim is indeed true, which it quite easily could be. I mean it wouldn’t be the first time that a fast food company was caught incorrectly advertising what their products actually contained, would it?
McDonald’s have of course strenuously denied these claims – stating that their mozzarella sticks are 100% mozzarella – and intend to fight the court case tooth and nail which implies that they’re probably going to win because who goes up against McDonald’s and wins? Nobody, that’s who.
I mean if Ronald McDonald would massacre a playground full of small kids, then imagine what he would do to someone suing the company for $5million.
