Veganuary is one of the biggest new global events out there – for better or for worse – and more and more corporations out there are desperately looking to add vegetarian/vegan options to their menu so that they can appear woke to these new trends.

The latest fast food outlet to offer one such option is McDonald’s, but they’ve done this in a slightly unconventional way in that they’re now offering a vegetariain option specifically for children. Or adults that like plastic toys and don’t have big appetites.
That’s right, for the first time since they were introduced in 1979, the classic McDonald’s Happy Meal is now offering a vegetarian option. Alongside the traditional nugget and burger options, you’ll now be able to get a Vegetarian Wrap, filled with a goujon made from yellow split peas, tomato, arborio rice, and sundried tomato pesto, along with tomato ketchup and shredded lettuce.
Sounds kinda rank to be honest, but I suppose young vegetarians can’t be too picky in this day and age. Not like there aren’t a bountiful amount of vegan/vegetarian options around in almost every city in the world these days or anything is there?
Anyway, best thing is that if you buy it right now then you also get a cool Pokemon toy with it as well. Result.
The Vegetarian Society are taking credit for the introduction of the Vegetarian Wrap to the Happy Meal, with chief executive Lynne Elliot saying the following:
It is especially important for young veggies to be able to choose something to eat when they are out with their friends.
With the new Spicy Veggie Wrap and Veggie Happy Meal carrying our trademark, diners can trust their meal is one hundred percent vegetarian.
I mean yeah fair play to them if they’re a lobby/political group and they did manage to lobby this onto the McDonald’s menu then you’ve gotta give them some props. Just kinda wish that they had managed to get something a bit nicer on the menu. Crap like that is enough to put any kids off being vegetarian when their mates are tucking into those delicious chicken nuggets. Just saying.
For more of the same, check out the Greggs new vegan sausage roll. Sure you haven’t heard about that yet.
