For some reason, Manchester United have decided that it’s a good idea to partner with 20th Century Fox in order to promote their movies. That’s not necessarily a bad idea, but what is a bad idea is making fake trailers for said movies with Manchester United players taking over the lead role.

We’ve already seen Wayne Rooney’s awful performance in the trailer for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse‘ and now we’ve been treated to seeing Ashley Young, Juan Mata, Daley Blind, Chris Smalling and Rooney again starring as fighter pilots in a trailer for ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’. To say this is even worse than the ‘X-Men’ one would be an understatement, as the players reel off awful joke after awful joke which kind of makes you appreciate how comedians actually have a sense of timing in movies.
There’s also a pretty laughable bit where they list out how many trophies they’ve won as their credentials, but only list the club’s trophies because hardly any of them have actually won anything themselves. This list also includes Chris Smalling bragging about 20 Community Shields for some reason. Big achievements mate.

Jesus Christ. Who honestly thinks that this is a good idea? More importantly, do humongous movies like ‘X-Men’ and ‘Independence Day’ even need Manchester United to convince you to go and see them? I would be so embarrassed if I was a Man United fan. I suppose this is why they’re so desperate to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic so they can at least have someone funny and charismatic doing this kind of stuff instead of Wayne Rooney. Even with him involved though it’s going to be a hard sell.
