CCTV footage of a man slapping a Nandos waitress across the face has gone viral, with social media up in arms over the fact that the police (at least initially) failed to take the incident seriously.
Here’s the footage:
Hi @NandosUK the below incident happened in your Stratford outlet yesterday.
Can you confirm that the assault has been reported to the police and your member of staff has received the support she deserves? pic.twitter.com/LUBCmg6MzU— BLAIM GAME (@BLAIMGame) August 21, 2024
No clue as to what the motivation was, but there’s nothing I can think of that would justify swinging a plate at a waitress’ face. Even the man’s wife seems mortified about it, but then imagine what he does to her in private if he thinks it’s OK to assault a female in public?
The waitress herself commented on the situation online – confirming the police were present and did F all about it:
the police were present at the time, I reported it to them and they let him go without taking his details or checking the cctv. i filed a complaint against the officers and their supervisor got back to me and essentially said “they’re humans and made a mistake” https://t.co/CtBblIZy74

Well, I suppose mistakes do happen, but this is a pretty big one, especially as all they had to do was look at the CCTV to confirm what happened. Not a great look for the Met really, is it?
Here’s hoping Zahra recovers from her ordeal and that the assailant gets dealt with accordingly now that the story is going viral.
