A homeless man has been jailed for life after pushing a complete stranger onto the live train tracks on the London Underground, all because he apparently gave him a ‘dirty look’.
Brwa Shorsh went up to the 60-year-old victim at Oxford Circus tube station in February and shoved him into the path of a Victoria line train. Fortunately, the man managed to stay on his feet and didn’t land on the electrified rail, and as helped back up onto the platform by another passerby. Here’s the footage:
The Victoria line train driver had applied the emergency brake, which is good to know, but he was only seconds away from hitting the victim.
The driver told the court: ‘If he had been on the track a few seconds later, he would have been killed.’
24-year-old Brwa Shorsh legged it from the station before police could arrive, but thankfully was arrested later that same day. When interviewed, he confessed he’d pushed the victim because he had ‘given him a dirty look’ which ‘made him angry’. Casual.
Shorsh was sentenced this week to life in prison with a minimum term of eight years after previously being found guilty of attempted murder. Not quite sure how a minimum of 8 years equates to life in prison, but there you go. They do say the prisons are overcrowded after all.
Big ups to the victim who was nimble enough to stay on his feet even at 60 years of age, and to his fellow passenger who helped him back onto the platform. In fact, the judge awarded said passenger £1,000 for his bravery and quick reaction. Fair play.
