Can you imagine some nut job slapping your grandma to death under the guise of ‘alternative therapy’?
A 60-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter by gross negligence over the death of a woman at his ‘slapping therapy’ workshop.
Danielle Carr-Gomm, 71, died at Cleeve House, a country hotel in Wiltshire which was hosting the workshop in October 2016. According to Metro, the workshop involved fringe ‘therapy’ in which patients are slapped or slap themselves repeatedly for supposed health benefits.
Ms Carr-Gomm, from Lewes, East Sussex, took part in the workshop in the hope of treating her diabetes, which obviously sounds ridiculous, but she was willing to try anything to treat her condition as she struggled to inject insulin due to a fear of needles.
Hongchi Xiao, 60, from California, has now been extradited from Australia and charged in Swindon. He actually led the workshop under the name Master Xiao, calling it ‘Paida & Lajin’ after the Chinese words for slapping and stretching.
His prices are a slap in the face too:
It’s good to see action being taken against these lunatics and scammers who take advantage of the sick, vulnerable and desperate, which this time has tragically led to an untimely death. Not saying that ‘alternative medicine’ never works, but so often it’s complete nonsense, especially when it comes to something like diabetes. Let’s hope that justice is done and this guy doesn’t get to sell his snake oil ever again.
