The man behind the infamous white and gold/blue and black dress that everyone was losing their minds over in 2015 has been charged with attempting to kill his wife.

As reported by The Times, 38-year-old Keir Johnston appeared in Glasgow’s High Court after being charged with attempted murder, following years of alleged domestic violence and coercive control over his partner at their home on the Isle of Colonsay, Inner Hebrides, Scotland.

The Times reports that Johnston committed ‘an almost 11-year campaign’ against his wife, including incidents where he allegedly pushed her against a wall, shouted at her, throttled her, threatened to kill her and pulled a knife on her.

Other allegations include him striking his wife through an open window of a car, and dragging her out of a pub in a headlock after she didn’t want to leave with him.

Then, on 6 March, 2022 he allegedly pinned his wife to the ground and began choking her. It’s this incident that led to the attempted murder charged, after he also brandished a knife at her during the assault.

So yeah, definitely not a news item anyone had on their 2023 bingo card. You would imagine these two to be such an unserious, happy-go-lucky couple considering the reason they initially went viral back in 2015.

An example of people losing their minds at the time:

According to science, the picture of the dress was an optical illusion so that’s why no one could seem to agree:

Our brains decide what colour something is by taking in all the light from that object and ‘throwing away’ the light from surrounding objects.

So, you see the colour of, say, a dress in relation to the colours of objects surrounding it.

In the photo that’s driving everyone mad, the surrounding colours are so jumbled that our brains can’t actually determine what colour the dress is.

Those who see the surrounding colours as dark are more likely to see the blue in the dress as white, and the black lace as gold.

So it seems like it was all down to how each individual sees and processes colour. None of us were wrong, and all of us were right! It’s a shame Keir couldn’t carry this philosophy into other marital disagreements (assuming they weren’t still arguing about the dress), but let’s hope justice is served and that this sc*mbag gets what he deserves. A dark day for the internet, indeed.
