I’m pretty certain that everyone who grew up in the 90s and and had a PC would have played the first two ‘Monkey Island’ games because they were truly iconic at the time, so I’m certain that the news of a sequel from original game developer Ron Gilbert will come as a pleasant surprise to a lot of people out there.

Gilbert left the franchise after ‘Monkey Island 2: Lechuck’s Revenge’ and there were a couple of other games made after that that weren’t so good, but this latest instalment is being billed as ‘the long-awaited follow-up to the legendary ‘Secret of Monkey Island’ and ‘Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge’’ so it sounds as if they’re just going to pretend those other ones never happen. That’s fine with me because I never played them so can just jump right in with these ones and I’m sure it will be the same story for many of us.
You can check out the trailer below although it isn’t giving much away:
Yeah really isn’t giving anything away whatsoever but I suppose the graphics look good and it’s nice to confirm that Dominic Armato is returning to voice Guybrush Threepwood as well. Just would have been nice to get some idea of the plot points or see some of the action, but I guess they’re saving that for a later trailer.
Sadly there isn’t a release date yet, but we’re hearing that it should definitely be this year. Might be one to gift a family member at Christmas.
