Everyone is currently loving sitting in the beer gardens of their favourite boozers and getting smashed, but imagine how good it would be if you actually got paid to do this rather than having to spend your own hard earned cash?

This is exactly the situation that Lincolnshire Council is proposing, as they’re offering to pay one lucky candidate £29,000 to tour and document all the pubs on a 50 mile stretch of coastline. Unfortunately, you are actually going to have some qualifications for the role as they’re requiring that the successful candidate be educated to degree level in building conservation or archaeology.
That’s probably going to rule out pretty much everyone reading this post, so sorry about that. Here’s the official job listing:
The role will involve researching and recording the architectural and social history of public houses along a 50 mile stretch of the Lincolnshire Coast from Grimsby to Boston, to inform their future management and conservation.
This is urgently needed to enhance the local historic environment records, raise awareness in response to the threat of pub closures, and help the hospitality sector recover from the pandemic.
The Project Officer will help work with colleagues, partners and communities to promote and celebrate the value of Lincolnshire’s historic pubs to society, tourism and the local economy through social media, trails and an end of project exhibition.
Inns on the Edge is intended to be a pilot project, during which ideas and methodologies will be tested and evaluated, with the intention of informing future projects in other parts of the county and elsewhere in England.
Applicants should also have a good working knowledge of the region’s heritage, and of the architectural and social history of pubs is desirable.
As is a good understanding of the social and economic role of public houses in rural and urban communities today, and the current challenges they face.
Yeah, that really doesn’t sound as good as we all thought it was going to does it? Actually sounds like a lot of hard work even if you did already have one of the degrees that they were looking for. Think I’ll give this one a miss.
For more of the same, check out Boris Johnson breaking his own rules at the pub a couple of days ago. What an idiot.
