Probably the last thing I expected to wake up today and hear was that Lindsay Lohan has converted to Islam, but it turns out that this might actually be true after she published this mysterious post on her Instagram account yesterday.

Lohan has deleted every picture she’s ever posted on it and changed her bio to simply say ‘Alaikum salam’. This is an Arabic phrase that translates as ‘and unto you peace’ and the whole thing has encouraged people to speculate that Lohan is now a Muslim.

This might sound a little ridiculous to begin with, but there’s actually some precedent that means that this could actually end up being true. Back in 2015, Lohan was pictured holding a copy of the Qaran and explained why she was doing this to Turkish chat show Haber Turk:

My very close friends, who have been there for me a lot, in London are Saudi and they gave me the Quran and I brought it to New York because I was learning.

It opened doors for me to experience spiritually, to find another true meaning. This is who I am.

I’ve been looking at a number of religions and deciding which one to follow.

So there you go, not quite as preposterous as you thought at the beginning of this article. Lindsay herself hasn’t commented on why she’s made these changes but the Muslim community are welcoming her with open arms if she has indeed decided to convert.

Watch this space I suppose, although if she were really serious about becoming a Muslim, I would have thought that she might have announced it slightly more respectfully than via a cryptic Instagram message, but hey what do I know?
