Well, this is weird. For about 24 hours now the word on the internet streets was that viral sensation Lil Tay was dead. It was all over social media. Her ‘family’ put out a statement on her Instagram account. The Canadian police came out and said there were no investigations and they weren’t even aware that Lil Tay had died.
Well it turns out she’s very much alive, and is now claiming her Instagram account was hacked and used to spread “jarring information” about her and her brother dying suddenly. Jarring information? Why didn’t you tell us this yesterday when we were blogging about it like idiots?
In a statement provided from Tay’s family, she told TMZ:
“I want to make it clear that my brother and I are safe and alive, but I’m completely heartbroken, and struggling to even find the right words to say. It’s been a very traumatizing 24 hours. All day yesterday, I was bombarded with endless heartbreaking and tearful phone calls from loved ones all while trying to sort out this mess.
My Instagram account was compromised by a 3rd party and used to spread jarring misinformation and rumors regarding me, to the point that even my name was wrong. My legal name is Tay Tian, not “Claire Hope”.”
Tay’s fake death was announced Wednesday morning on her Instagram. The statement said her “sudden and tragic passing” is an “unbearable loss,” adding her family is in complete shock:
RIP redacted I guess. I still don’t know why it took her and her family so long to inform the internet that she is alive but I suppose it’s not the worst bit of free publicity you can get.
Should probably get herself on camera ASAP before we get another news item tomorrow confirming that she is actually dead and the real hacker was the person who is claiming that she’s alive. Anything can happen…
