It turns out Liam Payne had a lethal cocktail of drugs in his system when he plummeted to his death from a hotel balcony in Argentina last week.
Hardly surprising news, but it is shocking to read the autopsy report and see exactly how many different drugs the former One Direction member had in his system at the time.
According to partial autopsy reports acquired by ABC News, the 31-year-old singer had a range of drugs in his system including cocaine, crack, ketamine, MDMA, meth, and benzodiazepines when he fell from the third-storey balcony in Buenos Aires. So every drug under the sun, essentially.
Sure enough, a search of Liam Payne’s hotel room after his death revealed a whole bunch of drug paraphenalia:
Argentinian police are currently investigating two staff members at the Casa Sur Hotel who have been accused of supplying Payne with the drugs. Authorities claim that they smuggled the illegal substances into Payne’s room through a box of Dove soap (seen in the image above).
Of course, the drugs themselves have not been recorded as the cause of Liam Payne’s death, but rather the injuries he sustained from falling from the balcony at the Casa Sur Hotel.
“The prosecutor’s office indicated that, based on the position in which the body was found and the injuries from the fall, it is presumed that Payne did not adopt a reflexive posture to protect himself and may have fallen in a state of semi or total unconsciousness,” the report says, per Us Weekly.
I guess all we can hope for now is that Payne was so out of it that he didn’t even notice he was falling from such a great height. I mean, that is an insane number of drugs to have going on at once, so I think we can assume he didn’t feel any pain or terror as he fell from the balcony and hit the ground. Which may be a very small comfort to his friends, fans and family. You wouldn’t want to die that way sober, that’s for sure.
RIP Liam Payne and thoughts with his loved ones as they continue to deal with this brutal tragedy.
Payne’s body will remain in Argentina until the full autopsy report is complete.
