Congratulations to former Sick Chirpse writer Leo Faulkner AKA Vessel for becoming a rock superstar with his band Sleep Token. 3.3 million streams a month on Spotify! 60 million+ views on YouTube! Sold out shows at massive venues across the world!
Leo and Sleep Token have actually been killing it for some years now, but for some reason we never mentioned it. Why? Are we jealous of Leo Faulkner and his success? Are we bitter that Leo Faulkner abandoned Sick Chirpse to pursue his rock dream with his rocker buddies? A lot of people might think that, but this couldn’t be further from the truth.
After all, it’s not like we gave Leo his big break by publishing his first blog post in 2014. It’s not like I’m sat here writing about the fact that Leo would be working at CEX or McDonald’s (not that there’s anything wrong with that) if it wasn’t for Sick Chirpse. It would be completely out of order for us to claim that Leo Faulkner would be nothing if it wasn’t for the blogging opportunities we gifted him in 2014 – 15, so I’m not going to do that.
In fact, every time we get an e-mail asking whether Leo Faulkner/Vessel from Sleep Token is the same Leo Faulkner who blogged for Sick Chirpse, I notice a single tear sneaking out of my eye socket and plummeting into my keyboard. Again, not out of jealousy or bitterness, but pure pride and happiness that one of our guys made it in the big time!
So yes, let’s all wish Leo Faulkner the best on his continued quest for world domination, rocking out to thousands of people in arenas around the world, making millions of pounds, and banging Sleep Token groupies everywhere he goes, while we carry on blogging dumb stories in our underpants. Like I said, not bitter at all. Go Leo Go! Go Leo Go!
