You might have missed it over the last week or so because we haven’t posted about it, but Olivia Wilde has been going around saying that she fired Shia LaBeouf from her movie ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ after allegations about him and FKA Twigs emerged and she thought it was necessary in order to protect the movie’s star Florence Pugh.

However, Shia LaBeouf appeared publicly for the first time in over a year last week to challenge this story, first by releasing some text messages and email exchanges between the pair before the following video found its way onto the internet too (story courtesy of Variety):
In the emails, LaBeouf wrote, “You and I both know the reasons for my exit. I quit your film because your actors and I couldn’t find time to rehearse.”
According to the texts, LaBeouf and Wilde met in person in Los Angeles to discuss his exit from the film on Aug. 16, 2020. Later that night, Wilde texted him [in part], “Thanks for letting me in on your thought process. I know that isn’t fun. Doesn’t feel good to say no to someone, and I respect your honesty…. I’m gutted because it could have been something special.”
LaBeouf claims he “officially” quit “Don’t Worry Darling” the next day on Aug. 17, 2020, according to the email he sent to Wilde on Thursday morning. [via Variety]
Yeah, that video certainly doesn’t look as if she fired him because she wanted to protect Florence Pugh? If anything it implies that there was some kind of problem between Pugh and LaBeouf and Wilde herself was desperate for LaBeouf to come back onto the project and sort it out. Very suspicious.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that Shia isn’t an abusive piece of shit who kidnapped FKA Twigs and whatever else, just that this particular story about him isn’t correct. Very weird and problematic for Olivia Wilde to try and piggyback on that to hype up her film, but I guess that’s Hollywood. Interesting to see where that goes.
