Someone who has just attended an Ed Sheeran concert would have suffered enough already, so it’s really disheartening to see this clip of a man getting KO’d by a bouncer while returning home from watching the singer at the Principality Venue in Cardiff, Wales.
Bouncer Kevin Davies claims he ‘pre-emptively’ struck Michael Barraclough after seeing him argue with his girlfriend in the street, as he was worried it was going to turn physical. Essentially, he broke the lad’s jaw for no reason:
Music-lover Barraclough suffered a broken cheekbone, eye socket and jaw in the 4am attack. When asked in court whether he had done anything to provoke For Your Eyes Only doorman Davies, Barraclough responded: ‘I wouldn’t know him from Adam. I think he went steaming in and knocked me out cold. In my eyes it was an unprovoked attack.’
Here’s Davies – what a tough guy:
Barraclough’s girlfriend, Karina Tufft, told the court that while she and Mr Barraclough were arguing, it was completely unnecessary for Davies to get involved: ‘I asked the bouncer: “What the f*** was that all about?” It came out of nowhere. It was unnecessary. I was so shocked.’
Davies, of Blaenavon, Gwent, was convicted of causing grievous bodily harm and will lose his security license as a result. He was also handed a 12-month suspended sentence and ordered to pay Mr Barraclough £800 compensation.
Judge Recorder Sean Bradley said: ‘You punched him directly in the face with a very significant and clearly excessive degree of force. It’s clear to me you seriously misjudged this situation. You rushed in to defend Miss Tufft when there was no need to. You’re a big man and even if you had intended to protect Miss Tufft you clearly used excessive force.’
