Kumbh mela is a mass Hindu pilgrimage of faith in which Hindus gather to bathe in a sacred river. It is considered to be largest peaceful gathering in the world with over 100 million people visiting during the Maha Kumbh Mela in 2013. There’s a whole lot of a nudity and the occasional deadly stampede.
The gathering takes place every few years in four different areas alternately across the country, and as the photos below show you it’s a pretty epic show down. The festival is billed as the “world’s largest congregation of religious pilgrims” but there’s no real way of finding out how many people rock up there. But it’s definitely loads.
The guy below is dressed as the goddess Kali. Kali is the Hindu god of death and is often to blame for modern human sacrifices. That’s a pretty strong look right there.
